Recycle Grocery Bags
Executive Summary about Grocery Bags by MaryAnn Reynolds
Have you noticed how the grocery store check outs have changed over the past several years? No matter how big the supermarket you shop at or the things you buy, you are always provided with grocery bags and in most cases are encouraged to recycle grocery bags. In a society that is environmentally conscious, this is definitely a convenience worth paying for.
The days of living how we want and shopping for what we want are ever changing. For example, each time we buy goods at the grocery store we are seldom given the choice of paper or plastic grocery bags. What happened to paper bags and why must we use the plastic, is not plastic more harmful to the environment? These are questions that many never ask because for most, it does not matter what their groceries are bagged in, just as long as it makes it home without leaking or tearing.
Since grocery bags have become part of our lives, have you ever wondered where this pile and pile of bags goes after we throw them out along with the garbage. Over the past years, the possibilities of environmental harm caused by plastic bags have been enumerated and unfortunately up to now we do not seem to have special and permanent solution to solve this problem. Since there is no possible alternative at present, we do not have much choice but to recycle grocery bags into other usable forms or use them again for the same purpose just to control the use of plastic that can harm the environment.
Our purpose in using recycled bags is to protect the environment in many ways by reducing the amount of plastic grocery bags that end up in landfills, in lakes, seas and rivers because they do not degrade for years. In effect, this causes problem to all the living organisms big and small that depend on the environment. If our surroundings are filled with plastic pollutants, the result is life and biological degradation. Therefore, if we recycle bags, be it in paper or plastic form, we are reducing a large volume of plastic wastes that may harm our environment as well as aiding in the preservation of biodiversity. Recycled grocery bags are as much the same as non-recycled bags aside from that recycling grocery bags take less energy in producing them rather than making new ones that uses enormous power and raw materials to produce.
